The God of deliverance
Dear Bretheren in Christ,
“He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them… for their lives are precious to him.”
— Psalm 72:12–14
Lent gently turns our eyes away from ourselves and toward the heart of God. And what do we discover there? A God who bends down toward the weak, listens to the forgotten, and defends those who have no voice.
Jesus did not spend His earthly days among the powerful alone. He walked with the sick, touched the rejected, spoke with the ignored, and lifted those crushed by life. The cross itself is God’s declaration that every human life is precious.
During Lent, fasting is not only about giving up food or comfort; it is about giving up indifference. True repentance softens our hearts toward human suffering. When we notice the lonely neighbor, the struggling family, the grieving soul, or the unnoticed worker, we begin to see as Christ sees.
To follow Jesus in this season is to become an answer to someone else’s cry.
Whose silent cry around you is God inviting you to hear this Lent?
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see those who are precious to You but often unnoticed by the world.
Make my life a channel of Your mercy, compassion, and saving love. Amen.
Prayerful regards,
