Growing Christian

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ (Ephesians 4:15)

We should grow up into Christ in all things. Into Christ, so as to be more deeply rooted in him. In all things; in knowledge, love, faith, and all the parts of the new man. We should grow up towards maturity, which is opposed to being children.

Sadly, millions of Christians grow older but never grow up.

They’re stuck in perpetual spiritual infancy, mechanical and ritualistic religiosity, remaining in diapers and booties. The reason is because they never intended to grow. Spiritual growth is not automatic; it takes an intentional commitment. You must want to grow, decide to grow, make an effort to grow, and persist in growing.

Those are improving Christians who grow up into Christ. The more we grow into an acquaintance with Christ, faith in him, love to him, dependence upon him, the more we shall flourish in every grace. He is the head; and we should thus grow, that we may thereby honor our head. Our material growth is not substitute or synonym to spiritual growth. The Christian's growth tends to the glory of Christ.

What are some of the new characteristics of Jesus that God has been developing in you?

How do you want God to work in your life? Take some time to pray, and ask God to grow you in these areas — and for trust and patience as he does it in his time.
